Etude House Dear Darling Water Gel Tint

I know the days of glorious sunshine are pretty much over (for rainy, rainy Britain), but how about getting one last fling at summer with these adorable water gel tints from Etude House? These were released months ago when I was still in the UK, miles away from affordable Korean beauty brands.

Today I’ll be reviewing the Dear Darling Water Gel Tint from Etude House– their Dear Darling tints have a huge range, but for these adorable popsicles, there are just six: 샤크레드 (Shark Red) , 통팥레드 (Red Bean Red), 수박레드 (Watermelon Red), 오피치레드 (Oh Peachy Red), 보석레드 (Jewel Red), and 살구레드(Apricot Red).

I found the tints very pigmented, like the rest of the Dear Darling range, and some of the shades ended up looking pretty similar when I swatched them instore! I decided to get the reddish tints since I look better in those hues (compared to pink).

I bought two tints (Shark Red, Watermelon Red) during a 1+1 event, from a store called Beauti Topping on a local Singapore shopping site, Qoo10 (SG). There is an alternate site called Qoo10 Global, for international shoppers- the tints are shipped direct from Korea, and are often marginally cheaper than getting them in brick and mortar stores.

I got it with the sale price of $8.70 (U.P. $10.99) with shipping $1.90 (total roughly £6) which was a steal considering it costs $9.90 in stores. I keep harping on the price but as a Singaporean, there’s nothing I love more than a good deal! Qoo10 does sales regularly so keep an eye out- the price will surely drop soon.

You can apply several coats for a buildable look or apply in the center and blend outwards for a softer, ulzaang look. Bitten lips, right on trend!

I usually bring Shark Red with me- I just pop it into my purse and carry it around, it’s small and fits perfectly. It might be less convenient to pop into a pocket due to its thickness (my common gripe with the EOS lip balms) though.

I also purchased the normal Dear Darling tints in two shades- RD305 (L) and BR401 (R).

I got BR401 purely by accident- I placed the order assuming it was a deeper red, but this was from the soda pop range- also named BR401. Ach, online shopping is convenient, but it’s so much easier to mess up/ click something you didn’t mean to/ order something you didn’t intend to. Oh well.

BR401 has a matte formula and smells strongly of sweet soda. I profess to not being a fan of the colour- it is a very peachy pink and applies thickly. The chemical-y sweet smell irritates my nose (and lips! they burned)- I’m not overly sensitive to fragrances and don’t mind them, but this was overwhelming. I’ll probably sell it off on Depop or Carousell (both links will take you to my shop page).

RD305 is now my new everyday shade- despite how dark it looks on the official promotional pictures, it blends out to a very wearable shade! It is a lovely brick red shade with no orange undertones.

I use it with the NYX soft matte lip cream in Abu Dhabi and it looks gorgeous! I’ve never been a fan of full-on matte shades, since I’m often snacking throughout the day- matte lipsticks tend to wear off fastest in the center, giving that dreaded patchy look.

Lip tints are a lot more lightweight and easy to reapply- and you don’t have to take them off at all- they just wear off over the course of the day or come off easily during your regular face cleansing routine without any hassle or stain! I think it’s a great shame lip tints haven’t been brought to western countries like UK/ USA or publicised more.

It was only early this year that I’ve seen beauty sites like Beautybay start stocking Korean brands like Tonymoly (a favourite with such sites, since the packaging is adorable), and I’ve spotted a few Etude House products sold in T.K.Maxx (mostly older ranges).

Do any of you guys use makeup from Korean brands? I would recommend giving them a try- they are often comparable to huge, established beauty brands for a fraction of the price! I use a sheet mask from Innisfree to save my skin after a bad breakout- it is honestly such a lifesaver. While I’m still in Singapore, I’ll try to review more Asian beauty brands- it’s been too long since I’ve done a full review!

I purchased these products with my own money, and all opinions about the product are my own.

Yadah Angel Lip Tint in Juicy Red

Hi guys!

Today, I’ll be reviewing the Angel Lip Tint in Juicy Red from Yadah. I thought I’d do this post first because it requires less effort and I have swatches from some time ago, though they’re not very well done because I didn’t have energy to edit them to become prettier or whatever. Just bear with me for now because I’m totally drained of energy nowadays. I think I even look stoned in some of the pics haha.

I bought this online at Qoo10 (link directs you to the page) when it was on sale at 5.90 SGD, plus free shipping. Shipping is now at 1 SGD but occasionally the price drops to 4.90 SGD, so grab it quick when it happens!!

When I wanted to buy this, I decided to do my research first and search for reviews on this lip tint. It was super hard to find reviews of this particular colour because apparently EVERYONE is choosing the other colour- Angel Lip Tint in Red Wine. SO IRRITATING!

In the end I decided to choose Juicy Red because I had tons of lip products similar to the Red Wine colour (like reddish pink) and I wanted to try something more refreshing and unique. I mean, if the whole wide world is going to buy the same colour, how boring can it get?!

Now I’m already starting to eye PeriPera’s lip tints, particularly the orange one.  It looks so awesome! I bought Revlon Just Bitten Lip Stain in Rendezvous, hoping to get coral lips but it was somewhat of a disappointment because the colour of my lips overpowered it and it ended up looking more red than anything else 🙁 I tried using lip concealer but as it was a lip tint it kinda mixed in with the concealer and I ended up with pasty orange on my lips that looked terrible.

ANYWAY.

I really like this lip tint because it can be used in two ways-

1) For the ‘Bitten’ effect

2) Over the entire lip, like a lipstick.

I really need to make a tutorial on how to achieve the bitten effect because I am seeing so many ugly pictures out there that totally ruins the effect.

Firstly, before you use this,

MAKE SURE YOUR LIPS ARE IN GOOD CONDITION.

I can’t describe how MANY people who review this with chapped and peeling lips and oh god it is a sight for sore eyes. If you look at some of the beauty blogger reviews you will know what I mean. I will not name names but some of them are truly awful.

If you have chapped and peeling lips, having the bitten effect will make it look like you’re bleeding from the mouth instead of having a sexy ‘bitten’ effect. Plus, the tint will make all the lines and cracks show up all the more, and you don’t want that, do you?

I will show you the pictures before I make any further comments on the product.

I always like to let pictures speak for themselves 🙂

BARE LIPS

just realised I have a super ugly long chin in this photo omg

Note: I am not nude lol

APPLYING THE LIP TINT…

Oh noes I look like I have buck teeth here

‘BITTEN’ EFFECT

Stupid camera adjusted the whole pic to a yellowish tone to balance out the red of the lips

FULL COLOUR

I enlarged two of the pictures so you can see the difference. The difference doesn’t show up much in pictures because I’m using the webcam camera on my computer instead of my Canon 60D DSLR (Canon FTW! Nikon is not user-friendly at all and the colour isn’t as good). If I have time I’ll try to retake the pictures, but no promises! But omg my face is so blurry and pixellated…. okay okay I’ll retake them. You win!

On to the review.

I really like the lip tint and I use it almost everyday, because this is one lip product that has a brighter lip colour than my bare lips. It is similar to my actual lip colour but a little more intense, so it layers well. I see some pictures out there where the reviewers have a big colour diference between their bare lips and the lip tint, which doesn’t give such a nice effect.

In fact, I would highly suggest that you apply a mild tinted lip balm (like Maybelline Baby Lips in Pink Glow or Pink Blast, see review here). Lip Ice Sheer Colour is too bright for the subtle effect anyway, and too pink, unless you are getting the Red Wine Liptint (which leans towards bright pink rather than red)

It is a pity that this lip tint doesn’t seem to last long on my lips (maybe because I’m always eating), for me it lasts up to 1-2 hours max on normal school days. If I wear it while going out it lasts a little over 2 hours, but that’s it. Re-application is a must if you want to have the bitten effect for a longer time period.

On a random side note, I always tend to eat this lip tint by accident when I’m applying it and it has a sweet/ sour taste. Apparently some reviews say Benetint has a terrible bitter taste, so maybe you can factor this in if you tend to eat it like me haha. Anyway, Yadah is a MUCH cheaper alternative to Benetint.

And I get it on my teeth too! How does that even happen omg.

Okay actually I know why but it is so irritating.

Okay I should explain how the ‘bitten’ effect is achieved.

Apply the lip tint to the center part of your bottom lip first (nearer the back),

like so

…and purse your lips together several times. Like kissing or doing lip smackers!

Repeat for the top lip, making sure you apply close to the inner part of the lip.

That’s all folks!

I’ll do a video tutorial next time if I can get Youtube to work on my browser.
